2.6 Family Experience Story/Resources

REAL LOVE Week 1: God Loves Everyone!

Watch this Week’s Video

“We are always teaching our kids that we need to love God and love one another, but often times neglect to give them tangible ways to do so. In this series, we are going to examine a few of Jesus’ teachings in depth and discover practical ways we can demonstrate our love for God, family, friends, and enemies, too! Our hope is that by the end of this series, every family will be able to say, because God loves everyone, I can show God’s love by being kind, I can show God’s love even when it’s hard, and that ultimately, love is the best choice!”

We invite you to visit us on our Canyon Creek Project YouTube channel or Facebook live for Family Experience every Saturday morning at 11AM.

We become a new creation, just like the caterpillar, when we invite Jesus into our hearts. (reference John 3:3)

Experience this lesson through family worship:

Read John 3:1-21 (paraphrase for younger children) “Nicodemus learned just how much God loved the whole world. Because of this love, God has a plan to save the world—through Jesus! That night, Nicodemus started to follow Jesus because he learned God loves everyone, including a Pharisee like him! And God still loves everyone today.”

Activity: Love is…

Choose some or all of the following "love is" words based on 1 Corinthians 13:4-7–patient, kind, not jealous, humble, polite, caring for others, controlling your temper, forgiving, good, honest–and write each one on separate index cards.  Put the index cards in a bowl and have each family member draw a card. Next, have each person demonstrate what their "love is" card by acting it out.

Additional Discussion Questions:

  1. Who was Nicodemus?

  2. What did Nicodemus learn from Jesus?

  3. How did God show His love for us?

  4. Read 1 Corinthians 13:4-8….Which of these love actions (i.e., being patient and kind; not being envious, proud, rude, easily angered, etc.) is the most challenging for you? Why?

  5. How do you usually show someone you love them?

  6. What do you think is different about how God loves and the way people love?

  7. What's one way you can make God's love "contagious" to everyone around you this week?
