SONG: Everybody Ought to Know
ACTIVITY: Today’s Bible story happens on a day that we call Palm Sunday!
Do you know why they call it Palm Sunday?
Yep! It does have something to do with palms. But not the palms of our hands. We’re talking about palm tree branches! Hmm, you know what? Let’s use our palms to make palm branches!
INSTRUCTIONS: Provide one piece of green cardstock and one craft stick per kid. Help your kiddos outline their hands with a marker and then cut out the two hands. They can glue the handprints any way they like onto the craft stick.
COLORING: Jesus Enters Jerusalem
DISCIPLE: Read today's Bible story; Luke 19:28-40
INSTRUCTIONS: Prepare the crown paper plate by following these instructions and making all the cuts beforehand. Have your kids decorate the crown however they want. Once they are finished, fold up the wedges to form a crown. Add gems to the top if desired. Discuss with kids as they do this activity.
Ask:
What are some things you think are powerful?
There are lots of powerful things. Dragons, superheroes, earthquakes, tornadoes . . . the list goes on!
But did you know Jesus is king over everything? That means he is more powerful than all of those things!
Let’s put on our crowns to remember that Jesus is king, and King Jesus loves all of us so much!
Pray: Dear God, thank you for being the king of everything. You are so powerful but you take care of all of us. We are safe because you are in charge! Amen.
DISCUSSION:
What did Jesus ask the two disciples to do?
Why do you think Jesus chose to ride a donkey?
What did the crowd do when they saw Jesus coming into Jerusalem?
Read Jeremiah 23:5-6; Zechariah 14:9. How did these prophets describe Jesus, even though they had never met him?
In what ways was Jesus not the kind of king the world might have expected?
Is it good or bad that Jesus is such a different kind of king? Why?
How can we get in the habit of putting Jesus first in our lives?
